Galloway
One of the oldest breeds of cattle in the UK which retains many of its native characteristics. The breed originates from wet, reedy country and is an excellent choice for fen and marsh sites.
An extremely hardy breed with a thick undercoat with long hair overlying it which sheds the rain, making it able to out winter happily. A placid, easy to handle breed of medium weight (average weight of cow 450-500 kg), which can be fattened in 24 months with good feeding but 36 months+ on rough grazing. Well known for being good mothers and can be fiercely protective with calves at foot, particularly towards dogs.
