Beef Shorthorn
A very hardy breed, originating from the Durham and Yorkshire areas, which is adaptable to harsh environmental conditions and can thrive on coarse, poor-quality vegetation.
Historically the Shorthorn was grazed and outwintered on poor quality grassland on the Limestone grasslands of the Burren in Southern Ireland and now used largely on upland moorland situations in Scotland.
A medium size breed (500-600 kg) which is an excellent converter of forage, and will quickly put on weight to finish between 20-30 months if put on fertile grass. A marketing scheme is available through the RBST.
