Farmers' Guidelines

By working with the area's farmers the Limestone Country Project has improved the conservation management of two internationally important wildlife sites by encouraging a return to mixed livestock farming using a number of different hardy upland cattle breeds.

The project has encouraged 18 farms to join. The farms have entered into whole farm conservation plans which agree how the land will be managed and farmed. The project has provided financial support to cover the increased cost to farmers, including the conversion of cattle sheds, the provision of water to remote land where the cattle will graze and the purchase of cattle and their transport to the land. Further help and advice has been provided for management such as weed and rabbit control.
